INFORMATION IS PROTECTION

RECOMMENDATIONS: WHAT NEEDS TO BE DONE

NB: this page is still in development

Recomendations for the recovery from the Fukushima Daiichi NPP accident(Japan, March 2011-ongoing)

Is it the end of Japan?
It is possible to live with this insurmountable catastrophe[]. However...incompetence, greed, lies, and deceit are factors exasperating efforts in the worst possible, negative way[].
Firstly, the biggest victim is the North Pacific Ocean[link 1 2 3]. Japan, meaning TEPCO and its connections to the Japanese government[link], have no right to release massive amounts of destructive radioactive substances into the ocean. Nobody owns the sea, and it is not a waste dump.
Secondly, the future of people exposed looks grim. Not only are the ordinary citizens in effected areas being encouraged to live in life harming conditions[link], but also their is a silent blanket of denial which is leaving humans exposed not only in Japan, but it's Asian neighbours[link], and the west coast of the USA and Canada and beyond[].
What must be done?
1.Evacuate
The safety of citizens is the number one priority
2. Inform
Information is power, and will allow people to make an informed decision
3. Help
This problem is far too important to prohibit outside help just because of pride or state (security)secrets
4. Prevent
Don't spread radionuclides as either waste or food items
5. Close
Fukushima is not the first nuclear accident on this earthquake, tsunami, volcano and typhoon susceptible archipelago. NPPs must be closed down.

Can diet prevent absorbition of ionising radionuclides?
It has been suggested that certain foods can reduce the harmful effects, mainly by blocking the human bodies ability to absorb.

Many inexpensive foods have shown protective properties against radiation, including:
  • Curcurim (and see this) – the active ingredient in turmeric which, in turn, is in yellow curry (available in Indian and Thai dishes)
  • Garlic (one Indian tribe living in the desert of Nevada used to eat bulbs of raw garlic to help protect against radiation from the above-ground nuclear tests)
  • Miso (when it has been “long-fermented”, instead of fermented for a shorter time)
  • Many types of seaweed (see thisthisthis and this; but buy seaweed grown outside of Japan and other polluted waters)
Many herbs and supplements available at health food stores or drugstores have shown some protective properties against radiation, including:
  • Aloe arborescens (commonly known as “Krantz Aloe”, a lesser-known member of the aloe family)
  • Chlorella, a blue-green algae (see this and this)
  • Holy basil (and see this; also called tulasi; this is the top herb in traditional Ayurvedic – i.e. Indian – medicine)
  • Panax Ginseng, a traditional “adaptogen” in Chinese medicine (see this and this)
  • Sesamol (an extract from sesame seeds)
  • Spirulina, a blue-green algae available at health food stores
(Consult your qualified healthcare provider before taking any herbs, as they can have side effects. Many of the herbs and supplements work by increasing antioxidants in your body, as discussed above.)
And there is some evidence that brightly-colored produce may have some protective properties.
